PERIODONTAL Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection of the gums that destroys the fibers incersión of dental plaque and supporting bone that holds teeth in the mouth. The main cause of this disease is bacterial plaque, a sticky film, colorless film that constantly forms on teeth. The toxins produced by bacteria in plaque inflame the gums, causing infection. It has been shown in the last two decades that smoking is one of the most important risk factors for the progression of periodontal lesion.
